Happy 2nd Birthday Whiskey + Aprons!

I was sent a reminder that on this day two years ago, this little blog was born. Although life sometimes gets in the way of me keeping up on my blogging and frequent posting (a New Year's resolution I've been been trying to stay committed to) I post on W+A's Instagram account all day everyday. From new restaurant finds to cooking something new up in our kitchen or mixing up a new cocktail, we always have food on the brain.

We'll be doing a little celebrating tonight with some wine, homemade stuffed Italian peppers and one of our favorite caramel chocolate dipped gourmet apples from the Candy Apple Shoppe. Stay tuned for a little announcement later in the week too. We may just be cooking live, very very soon ;)

Thank you all for continuing to follow Whiskey + Aprons over these past two years! We appreciate all of the support, follows + likes :)

Love,
M+J

Almond Poppy Seed + Lemon Loaf

Happy Spring? Yes,  the question mark is needed since we had snow on Long Island today and its April second! I'd say about six inches total, but we were happy to see the sun appear and melt some of it away. We started on some yard work this week and were getting the itch to start doing some planting, but luckily we held out for now. Snow days are always the best days to test out a new recipe and typically we like to try our hands at baking on these chilly days. We just received some of Kodiak Cake's  new Almond Poppy Seed Power Cakes Flapjack + Waffle mix. We decided to use this delicious mix for some baking and the results turned out absolutely delicious. Here's everything you will need:  Ingredients 3 cups of Kodiak Mix  1/2 cup of nonfat Greek yogurt 1 tsp vanilla extract  1 tsp of baking powder  3 eggs, beaten  4 tbsp of unsalted butter, softened  1/3 cup of brown sugar  3/4 cup of unsweetened vanilla ...

I Woke Up Like This

I sure did, with the world's biggest top knot, a baggy Gap hoodie circa 1999 and some fuzzy socks. Friday is finally here and I couldn't be happier. All of this snow makes the week go by even slower. Being cooped up in the house for a few days is never fun. I think I've got some hardcore cabin fever, so I am looking forward to getting out and celebrating our friend's 30th birthday on Saturday night. She is throwing a Gatsby themed party and I would be lying to you all if I told you I wouldn't be hanging by the champagne bar all night. It should be a fun time and I'm super excited to see their newly renovated home too. How life has changed. My weekends used to consist of planning my outfit for Friday and Saturday nights, preparing a pregame playlist and heading out with girlfriends to the newest and trendiest bar. Now, its 30th birthday parties, meeting our friend's babies and visitng friend's new homes, all very good stuff I might add. I kicked off ...

Apple & Onion Sweet Chops

Oh my gosh guys, I think I have a problem. Do any of you food shop and stock your fridge so often that you forget about things that you've bought? Well that happened to me today. I know some people have this issue with having clothes in their closet with tags still on them (I have that one too), but we literally can open our own fruit and vegetable stand with all of the produce we have in the fridge. Its kind of fun because it forces you to come up with different ways to use them in your meals. I knew tonight I was going to attempt the 21DF sweet chops recipe I came across last night, but I knew I wanted to make it as hearty and satisfying as possible. I had bought a head of cauliflower this weekend and had two bunches of asparagus, so I figured I'd roast up the asparagus and think of something different to do with my cauliflower. I thought of what I would typically love with my pork chops and aside from apple sauce I instantly thought of mashed potatoes. Good ol' American ...
